We're absolutely thrilled to introduce the newest member of the Deafblind Scotland family: Donna Finlayson! Donna joined us on July 8th, 2025, in the vital role of Business Development Lead.

Donna's passion for our mission and her extensive experience in securing funding will be instrumental in supporting our activities and advocacy work. We sat down with her to learn more about what attracted her to Deafblind Scotland, what her role involves, and even some of her amazing adventures outside of work.

What attracted you to work at Deafblind Scotland?

Honestly, I was initially drawn to Deafblind Scotland after seeing how friendly everyone looked on the website! From there, I researched further about dual sensory loss and its unique characteristics, which truly inspired me to think about how I could help. Working here feels like it will be incredibly inspiring and impactful, and I'm really looking forward to making a difference through grant funding and other sources to support the vital activity and advocacy work our members value so much.

Can you tell us a bit about what your role will involve?

My role focuses on raising funds for Deafblind Scotland in various ways. This includes corporate partnerships, trust and grant income, as well as contracted local authority income. I'm really looking forward to the diversity that this role offers.

What's your previous experience in fundraising?

I've worked in trust and grant income generation for over 13 years, most recently with Quarriers. I also have experience in support work with young people.

What are you hoping to learn or achieve in your new role?

I'm keen to enhance my knowledge of deafblindness, work towards gaining a guide certification, and begin learning British Sign Language.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I'm a member of Victoria Park Athletics Club and have mainly focused on middle to long distances over the years. Recently, I completed a triathlon, which I'm incredibly proud of as it took me six months to train for it! One of my life achievements in 2023 was hiking to Everest Base Camp – I still can't believe I actually saw Mount Everest! At the weekends, I love spending time with my extremely cute Australian Labradoodle, Fallon.

Donna brings extensive expertise, a strong passion for our mission, and a remarkable drive to Deafblind Scotland. Her dedication to securing vital resources for our members and services will be invaluable! We are very pleased to welcome her to the team and look forward to all the contributions she will make.
