The first "Right to Dream” Deafblind Awareness Training Programme was delivered by Deafblind Scotland in partnership with the University of Strathclyde’s Disability & Wellbeing Service.
The first seminar covered the history of deafblindness, followed by an explanation of Deafblind Scotland’s work and the everyday challenges faced by deafblind individuals.
The second session was an immersive workshop led by Strathclyde student Andrew Pettigrew, where participants experience simulated deafblindness and learn the Deafblind manual alphabet. Andrew also shares his personal story.
Both sessions have been well received, and recent workshops concluded with fourteen participants graduating from the programme.
Quotes from some of the participants:
"I knew next to nothing about the deafblind condition before this session, so I found it very enlightening. It was also the type of experience that you leave and tell others about, in and out of work. Highly recommended!"
"I really enjoyed the session and think it would be beneficial for it to be rolled out to more staff and students throughout the University."
